About Surface Contamination And Preparation
Because a concrete surface is porous it tends to retain chemicals, oils, mastics and other penetrating contaminants. But before any coating can be applied to a concrete floor, the surface must be "profiled", that is, made free of chemicals, dirt and other contaminants that can act as a barrier to proper coating adhesion. Some traditional profiling methods include chemical (acid) etching, and mechanical processes such as scarifying, sand blasting or high-pressure water blasting. These procedures are generally time-consuming and labor-intensive. They're not consistently reliable and they possess the inherent danger of releasing entrained hazardous chemicals and dust into the air in the process.
Contained shot blasting is considered the fastest, most cost-effective way to remove old coatings and contaminants from very large surface areas and to profile concrete surfaces for more reliable coating adhesion.
How Yankee Fiber Shot Blasting Strips Surfaces Quickly And Economically
Yankee Fiber Control has the shot blasting technology to strip, clean and profile large surface areas all in one step. Our method leaves the surface dry and chemical free without generating hazardous dust pollution.
The Technology Behind More Effective Shot Blasting Results
At the heart of Yankee Fiber's shot blasting capability is the "Blastrac" portable shot blast cleaning system. The Blastrac system uses a wide range of steel shot sizes that let us achieve a very controlled and uniform surface texture; anything from a light etching to removing up to one inch of concrete.
Within the system, an enclosed centrifugal blast wheel hurls the steel abrasive shot to the floor surface at great speed. The steel shot and contaminated dust and debris rebound inside a chamber which collects the dust but automatically recycles the shot for reuse. This way, only the dust and debris are collected and discarded making this method very economical. Employing a diverse range of specialized equipment, including the Blastrac system, Yankee Fiber Control is capable of removing up to 40,000 square feet of surface debris per shift. And it does so with minimal disruption in operations.
Capability To Strip And Prepare A Wide Variation Of Surfaces
Using Blastrac technology, Yankee Fiber Control can efficiently remove asbestos mastics, lead paint, dirt, grime, old coatings and embedded chemicals from concrete floors, parking decks, roads and horizontal steel surfaces.
